Job Title: Seed Lab Analysts

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Accountability: Reports directly to the Seed Lab Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• May be responsible for day to day operations of the seed lab.
• Perform sample dividing, germination, purity, and vigor testing including TZ on multiple crop kinds according to AOSA, ISTA and Canadian Rules.
• Assist the Seed Lab Director in the modification, development, and validation of new seed testing methodologies.
• Assist with Quality Management System as directed by the Seed Lab Director, CEO, or Quality Manager.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

• Knowledge of seed quality, seed testing, and seed conditioning.
• Knowledge of seed testing methods, chemicals, products, and equipment.
• Knowledge of the Quality Management System.
• Ability to verbally communicate with employees and customers.
• Ability to manage full and part time employees.
• Ability to apply conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to lift and carry samples, supplies and equipment as necessary.
• Flexibility to work under seasonal time constraints.

Qualifications:

• Registered Seed Technologist/Certified Seed Analyst
• Advanced education or experience in an appropriate field of study.
• Experience in vegetable, turf grass, and forage seed quality testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in rangeland/native seed quality testing.
• Experience/knowledge in seed production and conditioning.
• Supervisory experience.

Additional Requirements:

• Must be willing to accept a time commitment that may involve work weeks that exceed 40 hours and may require some evening and weekend work.
• Travel to meetings, conferences, and or customer visits.
• Valid driver’s license.

  • Conduct Seed Analysis and testing on submitted samples & direct daily operations of laboratory.
  • Train Seed Analysts to perform seed testing and to obtain their accreditation.
  • Solve problems, implement preventative practices and monitor laboratory supply inventories.
  • Communicate with clients concerning test results and seed quality problems.
  • Attend Regional Seed Industry meetings.

  • An Accredited Seed Analyst with qualifications to be a Senior or Associate with CSAAC.
  • Preference will be given to those candidates with both purity and germination accreditation.
  • Excellent Organization and Planning Skills.
  • Good Communications Skills and Customer Service Focused.
  • Enthusiastic individual who enjoys Innovation and Challenge.
  • A Self-Starter, Problem Solver and Team Player who is highly organized.
